E-Learning

Development of sales in Europe is focused entirely on the need that most organisations have to revisit the transformational principles of Dr W Edwards Deming. His legacy: A system to improve our systems.

The system to improve your system
Deming’s work has rightly been described as the third stage of the industrial revolution. Fundamentally his approach is concerned with regarding teams, companies, groups of companies, organisations etc. as a whole, and doing the best for that whole. This is as opposed to chopping up the organization into bits and pieces (“cost centres”), and “managing” them by “encouraging” them to maximise their own local scores (profits, cost savings, sales, etc.), irrespective of how they do it and irrespective of the harm which they cause elsewhere. Predominant in the reasoning are the multiplying benefits of genuine co-operation compared with the multiplying wasteful and destructive consequences of competition and conflict. One of his famous quotes seems so relevant to-day: "If management sets quantitative targets and makes people's jobs depend on them - they will meet the targets - even if they have to destroy the enterprise to do it." His teaching on transformation doesn't need to be learned in any particular order, but it does need to be learned. Structured learning

The benefits of structured learning
Organisations applying a structured company-wide approach to the learning indicate e.g:
• Three and four -fold increases in productivity;
• Less tampering = less chronic waste;
• Thousands of innovative ideas generated in three months (up from 48 ideas in the previous 18 months);
• Increased motivation; and
• Much less need for "½ x 2 =3" (half the staff working twice as hard = three times the profit).

Study courses
The latest course "Conformance to Performance" (CTP) was developed and piloted in the UK and is aimed at director level and senior managers who are seriously evaluating how to move from either a command and control or a conformance culture to one of continually-improving performance. We have gathered together key aspects of Deming's own writings into five digestible “bite-sized” chunks of learning from three excellent publications: Out of the Crisis, The New Economics and the Deming Dimension. Combined these with extremely user-friendly text, exercises tailored to your company, and supported by the appropriate DVD from The Deming Library.

E-Learning
The main platform is e-learning. The Conformance to Performance course syllabus (CTP) includes several first-class sessions featuring Dr Deming himself on DVD developing his theories on the importance of continual improvement to the implementation of the issues key to the organization's strategy. How you will benefit

Course design
The course is designed to allow you to learn how to transform your organization and:
• The need for the “leadership of quality” from the boardroom.
• How to involve both management and staff in transformation.
• How this same thinking transformed Japan.
• How inferior and cheap can become superior and dependable.
• Delighting customers (case studies: Ford, SMEs, 60 hospitals).
• How it can be done: A CEO explains his own personal transformation.
• How to apply the thinking – the System of Profound Knowledge.
• How to apply Deming’s framework – the 14 Points.

In addition to the introduction (modules 1 and 2), one module is devoted to the Red Bead Experiment, (3) two modules (4 and 5) to the 14 points, one each to Systems, Variation, Knowledge and Psychology and three modules to case studies covering Retail, (Gallery Furniture), Manufacturing (Ford Motor Company), and Healthcare (Good News…How Hospitals Heal Themselves). Past participants found that the Deming philosophy is diametrically opposite to what is going on in many organizations. Sadly, the unintended consequences of much of current management and government thinking drives fear in rather than out. He maintained that if management sets quantitative targets and makes people's jobs depend on them - they will meet the targets - even if they have to destroy the enterprise to do it".

Value
''He that expects to quantify in dollars, the gains that will accrue to a company year-by-year for a program of improvement of quality by principles expounded in this book will suffer delusion. He should know before he starts that he will be able to quantify only a trivial part of the gain". Pricing
